NYU Tisch School of the Arts Overview

The School of Performing, Cinematic, and Media Arts at New York University is called NYU Tisch School of the Arts, or just Tisch.

Since its founding on August 17, 1965, Tisch has served as a training ground for artists, art historians, and filmmakers. The School of Performing Arts, the School of Emerging Media, and the School of Film and Television are the three colleges that make up the institution.

NYU Tisch Departments and Programs

The new SAT score for the 25th percentile is 1370, and the SAT score for the 75th percentile is 1510. In other words, a score of 1370 would put you below average, and a score of 1510 would put you above average.

NYU doesn’t have an absolute SAT requirement, but they really want to see a score of at least 1370 for a chance to be considered.

Tisch School of the Arts, Asia

A collaboration with a Singaporean government organization under Singapore’s Global Schoolhouse initiative led to the creation of NYU’s first international campus. The Master of Fine Arts in Dramatic Writing, Film and International Media Production, Animation and Digital Arts are also offered for the first time in Singapore by Tisch Asia, a school of the arts. Professional seminars and non-credit certificate programs are offered over the summer.

With a goal of enrolling about 250 students, the campus was established in the fall of 2007 on the site of the former Ministry of Education and Republic Polytechnic campus at 3 Kai Cheong Road in Singapore. Pari Sara Shirazi, president of Tisch Asia, was sacked by NYU in November 2011 because enrollment projections weren’t met.

Dean Mary Schmidt Campbell informed the Tisch Asia community in a letter dated November 8, 2012 that the campus would close in 2014 and that new student applications would be suspended immediately.

She acknowledged the intellectual and artistic accomplishments of the Singapore campus, but she also gave financial difficulties credit for the choice to close. Schmidt-Campbell promised that NYU would keep its commitments to its current staff and students.

The letter mentions support from the Singapore Economic Development Board and states that it is willing to work with NYU in the future.
