List of all the chapters in the Quran and their meaning in English

The 114 chapters (surah), or srahs, that make up the Quran vary in length. Depending on whether the verses were revealed before or after Muhammad moved to the city of Medina, each chapter of the Quran is categorized as Meccan or Medinan.

However, Meccan passages may be found in a Srah (Chapter) that is considered Medinan, and vice versa. A person or attribute mentioned in the book, as well as the first few letters or words of the sura, may serve as the inspiration for a chapter’s title in the Quran.

Suratl Kauthar (chapter 108) is the shortest chapter in the holy Quran, with only three verses. Suratl Fatiha is the first chapter of the Quran and has seven verses. Suratl Nas is the last chapter and has six verses.

The chapters of the Quran are not organized in chronological sequence; rather, they seem to be grouped roughly according to decreasing chapter length. According to some academics, the sahs are placed in a specific pattern.

Each sūrah except the ninth chapter (Suratl Taubah) starts with Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم) which means ”In the name of Allah, the most Merciful, the most Gracious.”

However, the Bismillah is still used 114 times in the Quran because it appears in verse 30 of chapter 27. (Suratl An Naml verse 30).

The substance of the Quran addresses fundamental Islamic beliefs, such as the presence of God and the afterlife. The early prophets’ biographies, moral and legal issues, historical occurrences during the lifetime of prophet Muhammad, charity, and prayer are all mentioned in the Quran.

The Quran’s chapters offer general counsel on right and wrong, and historical events are connected to provide broad moral lessons.

The Quran itself uses the word “Quran” roughly 70 times. The Quran is broken down into Surahs (chapters), which are then broken down into Ayahs (verses). The Quran has 6666 verses in total.

Any person who has memorized the entire Quran is called a Hafiz (memorizer). An ayah (Quranic verse) is sometimes recited with a special kind of tone reserved for this purpose, called Tajwid.

Before touching a copy of the Quran, some Muslims believe they must undergo the ritual cleaning wash (Wudu or Ghusl). The Malikis, Shafis, Hanbalis, Abu Hanifa and other other scholars have ruled it legitimate for menstruation and post-partum bleeding women to recite the holy Quran.

If you are internally or physically dirty, stay away from the Quran. However, a sexually polluted person may at any time choose to change their status. He or she can conduct tayammum and manufacture ghusl if there is no water.

Muslims often finish reciting the entire Quran during Tarawih prayers during Ramadan, the month of required fasting for Muslims.
