John 1:1 says, “ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

When you read God’s Word, it is a way of being with God. When you pray after reading the Bible, you do pray for a few things:

  1. To have God reveal to us what He intended His word to say
  2. To help apply it to our lives
  3. To make sure we truly end our time with God focused on Him
  4. To help us carry His word with us so that we don’t leave it in the Bible- that we go out in the world living it.

Closing Prayers for Bible Study

Prayer for God to Reveal Himself

When we pray, we use words from the Bible to make sure we are talking to God with honesty. If people pray to see God and they use a Bible quote, I will use quotes too. All sayings are from the NIV unless it is said otherwise.

If a quote is directly a Bible verse, it will be in quotes, and also referenced.

  1. Dear Lord, I don’t want the spirit of the world. I want the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:10-16). Help me see less of what the world finds important, and more of what you find important. We know that the importance of your spirit lies in Your word. I ask that through Your word, You reveal what You want me to get from this. In your name I pray, Amen.
  2. O God, since the creation of the world, your invisible attributes have been clearly seen (Romans 1:19). You reveal your eternal power. Help me not know you as God, but to glorify knowing you as God. (Romans 1:20-23) Let the words I read today jump out at me to turn my heart constantly and consistently to you that you may reveal yourself and your will. Amen.
  3. Dear God, I have read Your word and it is good. Reveal Yourself to me now and throughout the next few days, and help me use that to become more like You. Help this living hope purify myself to be more Christlike (1 John 3:2-3). In your name we pray, Amen.
  4. O Mighty God, You are the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Now that I have read Your word, help me to live in your ways, your truth, and your life as You continually reveal yourself. Amen.
  5. Dear Lord, let Your words mix with my increasing faith that I may see the ways that you reveal Yourself. Amen. (Hebrews 4:2)“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” Amen. (Deuteronomy 29:29)
